Christmas Cornish Pixie Elves 2017

This year I was struggling with what to paint for the Christmas Cornish Pixies, so I've painted snowflake ones again as I do like the simplicity of them.

As you can see for this year I've not gone for traditional colours but used pink, blue, gold and a metallic black.

Though I have used traditional red and green for two Patchwork heart Cornish Pixie Elves.

I was also tempted to paint some more snowy scene Snowmen again this year but instead I painted a Mailbox and a Postbox.

I'm really pleased with the results of them and i even found time to paint some mini Cornish Pixie Elves which will be giveaway prizes for my next Facebook shows.

A doll revamp / makeover.

Do you remember this doll called Amberindia, I made her in 2014 and I'd been making art dolls for just over a year.

She was great then but I've never been quite happy with her, so this week I finally decided to revamp her, essentially give her a makeover. So I chopped of her head and made a new one and gave her a new hairstyle in a different colour and style.

I think it has transformed her and I prefer the way I do my faces now even though I still like to experiment. I was hoping to make more dolls this year but time is against me with editing book 2, shows and family life. But you never know I may find time to squeeze one in as I would like a new fairy for my christmas tree.

Until next time Vic xx

P.S. I still have the old head in my sewing box, it might get painted over and reused or I may pop it in a jar full of others next halloween.

Witch Brooches and Introducing Edgar.

It's been a busy couple of months but I do have some new things to show you, but the Cornish Pixie Muse is still missing in action, I think it may have gone on a rather long world tour. So what have I been busy with well I've made this years Witch Brooches along with a Unicorn Girl and a finished off the large troll doll.

Nina the Unicorn Girl was an experiment, I had made an error with her face so instead of throwing the head away I painted over the fabric and then painted her features. She has a whimsical quality to her with her gold horn and the sparkling threads in her hair

I always enjoy making the Witches and I had planned to make a larger witch doll ready for Halloween but I've run out of time. But I think I will still make a large one and I certainly need to make a few more of the smaller witch dolls.

So next I would like to introduce you to Edgar, he is Chief Fletcher to the Fae King of the Underworld. He was inspired partly by a character I've written in my Sidhe books, Midir is the Fae king of the Underworld and he has a Kings Bolt which got me thinking about Elf shot the Slaugh use. Not long after Julia Hay of Pandanimal had a show and she had made some beautiful lampwork arrowheads and the idea of Edgar took hold and after a few months I was finally able to make him.

Making Edgar was easy enough how to construct the arrow was another thing entirely as I wanted black feather flights. All the black feathers I could find in craft shows were too downy, so I decided to use some thin craft foam which I painted. I glued the arrow head and foam feathers to a painted bamboo skewer and used copper wire as well.

I had intended for Edgar to have a hat and give him a steampunk vibe but I changed my mind, he was also going to have an apron but I felt he didn't really need it.

The next few weeks I will try to get some Christmas Cornish Pixie Elves made along with a fairy for my christmas tree. Plus I will also be busy editing my next book ready for publication by the end of this year.

Until next time

Troll Babies and Retiring Pixies

My doll making muse has finally made it back which is good as I have a show next week and I wanted some new items. Sadly the Cornish Pixie Elf muse is still missing and probably enjoying Mojitos on a nice beach somewhere.

So back to dolls I've made a fresh batch of Troll Babies there is four this year including two girls. I've decided to just have a small amount of these in the summer and the same will happen with the witch brooches I will just make so many in September ready for Halloween.

There will be a few larger dolls coming soon and I've written an list to remind myself, but there are more witches planned with possibly a large witch.

And now for the Cornish Pixie Elves and a few of them will be going to the retirement home for Cornish Pixies. Some of those are Halloween ones but I'm hoping to have some new Halloween and Christmas Cornish Pixies soon.

Whimsical and Spotty Pixie Elves.

I've been busy painting three new Cornish Pixie Elves one is a bit different to my usual style but it was nice to paint. So I painted two small Pixie elves in some new matt paint (I got some more matt chalk paints and shimmery paints) and the other is a larger pixie as I needed the larger size for the decoration.

The green chalk paint is a really nice fresh colour and I really like it. The yellow in the bottle it looks like a clotted cream colour, but it dried to a pale ochre yellow. I teamed it up with a creamy felt hat at first I really wasn't sure but I have to admit I really like the more rustic look of the yellow.

I'm working on some new lines and I'm busy with some mixed media work amongst some other ideas. The mixed media work has been mainly painting whimsical girls in water colour and acrylic. As I wasn't sure what to paint I ended up painting one of my whimsical girls onto the larger Pixie Elf.

All three of these will be available in my Etsy Shop over the next week and you may find them popping up on Facebook. I will also try to get the Mermaid canvases I have partially painted finished and then photographed ready to show you. And I'll be looking at retiring some of the Pixie Elves in the next few months as well as think about Halloween and Christmas Dolls and Pixie Elves.

Until next time.

The return of the Unicorns and other Pixie Elves.

Its been a busy month here and not only I have I made four new dolls I have painted eight Pixie elves. Okay four of these were the new mini elves but its still eight. I also found some lovely new paints while out on a girls day out with my Mum and the Girlie. I will obviously have to go back and get some more along with a larger box to hold all my paints.

First up are the two sets of mini Pixie Elves, I used the new shimmer green and purple paints in these along with a very yummy gold.

I also bought two chalk paints a pale pink and a blueberry, they have given a nice finish to the wood bodies of the pixie elves. I used the gold and a few other paints on Bouquet a small sized Pixie Elf.

The gold and the shimmer paints came in handy for the next pixie elf.  I'm surprised it hasn't been stolen by the Lad yet, his new Betta called Loki, was the inspiration for this one.

I used the chalk paints and the gold antique effect on the last two pixie elves which both have Unicorns on them. I had to repeat the Unicorns as I really enjoyed painting the last one and these I enjoyed too. First is Blackie a black and gold Unicorn on a pink pixie elf, Girlie really likes this one so I may need to keep an eye on it.

And this is my favourite on the blueberry chalk paint which is a very gorgeous blue purple and the gold on top just shimmers.

I have some wooden hearts that might end up with unicorns and some of my other favourite designs on them, like the honey bee. But in the meantime these Cornish Pixie Elves will find themselves in my Etsy shop over the next week, if they haven't found homes or been stolen by the girlie or the lad.

A Mermaid, a Witch, a Fairy and a Devil.

The title of today's blog, as you may have guessed, is about four new small art dolls I've made recently. I have also made some new Pixie Elves but that will be in the next blog post.
Well my stock has been getting a bit low and I've not had huge amounts of time to create but recently I made an effort to get some new dolls made.

First up is Rilla the mermaid, I changed the pattern on this one a bit and added a pipe cleaner / chenille stick into the tail fin and then sewed around it and added some veining. It worked really well and it also means the fins can be moved and posed more. I also wanted to add some lampwork beads to her and used them as bangles on her wrists, I think it worked really well.

Now I must introduce you to Bluebelle Amethyst Deamonne, she is this years winner of the most glamorous Witch of the year. I love making my witch dolls and this one I decided was going to be a bit more glam and bling than the usual witches I do. I had trouble with choosing her hair colour but the white merino wool looked the best.

So next is the fairy doll and she is called Cassie and I love her face, she's turned out very serene and demure. I used the last of my favourite shot taffeta for her body and teamed her up with some beautiful shot blue chiffon. Oh and not forgetting her wings which are lace butterflies trimmed into wings.

And last but not least we have Lucy, as she likes to be known, her full name is Lucinda Princess of the underworld and regions of Hell and daughter of Lucifer.  This doll has been stuck in my head probably since last year, I was going to make her for halloween but time was against me as usual. But here she is now and I have a few more polymer horns left, including Unicorn horns, so there may be another little devil one day.

All of these dolls will be available in my Etsy shop sometime next week but first the have to go to a Masquerade Ball, aka my next 48 hour show in the Artist Limelight group on Facebook.

I'm off now to write a blog post on the new pixie elves ready to publish next week so I'll see you soon.
