Throwback Thursday.

I thought for todays post I would have a look back at something I made or something I have posted about on this blog.

copper bracelet

Today I have chosen this keyhole copper bracelet I made from recycled copper pipe. The pipe had been opened out and flattened. I textured some of the copper pieces and some still had the verdigris patina on it. I  really loved that bracelet even though I hated drilling all those holes, and the lady who bought it wore it all the time. It was also my very first blog post, I can't believe that was in February 2010.

Halloween and the C Word.

With September getting closer I'm thinking more about Halloween, there are a few pieces on sale already in my shop, mainly Cornish Pixie Elves. I still have these Cloth Doll Witches Heads from last year and they do make me smile.

I was originally selling them in pairs but I think this year I will split them up and sell them individually. The thing is I want to make a cloth doll for for Halloween and I'm worried i'm not going to have the time, but then again the idea I have it can be displayed all year round.

So after Halloween will be The C word yes I have to say it Christmas, though I prefer to call it Yule. Luckily I have two Santa's ready, one green the other red, and a Yule Fairy Art doll.

The Pixie Elves will start being listed sometime late next month as I don't like to list them too early.  Again I also have some new ideas for Yule and I have time to get those ideas sketched out and planned.

Now where is my sketchbook and pencils.

Lighthouse Pixie Elf Giveaway.

If you read my last post I mentioned that I would tell you more about the Stormy Lighthouse pixie elf. Well I only really wanted to list one in my Etsy shop and I've been thinking of doing a giveaway over on facebook for a while and now seemed a good time to do it. So if you go to my Cornish Dragon Facebook Page and like and comment on the post showing this pixie before 8pm on Monday 25th August 2014 and you never know this Pixie Elf could be yours.

Lighthouse and Sweetheart Elves.

This week I decided I wanted to paint some more elves, including one I had in mind for a seaside challenge. I had also been asked if I do any wedding pixie elves, this is something I have considered but I don't like making repeats too often. So I made a pair of pixie elves that could be considered for a wedding decoration etc. And here are the Sweet Heart pixie elves.

I like how they have turned out and I'm considering listing them permanently / made to order in my Etsy shop with the options of having a different coloured hearts like gold, red as well as the silver. I could also make them in the bigger elf body size too.

So for the Seaside challenge over on the Craft Pimp Forum I wanted to make a lighthouse pixie elf, n the end I made two. I reused two old retired elf bodies after sanding them down and giving them a couple of coats of gesso I painted them. I made one stormy and the other had a nice calm sea with a fishing boat. The one with the Fishing boat will be in my Etsy shop the other is on my Facebook page and my next blog post will tell you more.

Holiday Project

If you remember from a previous post I gave my kids a project for the holidays. The project was a book called Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith.

They both really liked the idea of the book and when the books arrived they couldn't wait to get started. The have done a bit in them but they have since been distracted with other things. Looks like wrecking the journal has turned into a longer project form them.

Meet Tansy

Tansy is my newest doll that I finished last week, I designed the pattern for her and it was a learning curve. She's bigger than my mini dolls and she has a two part head, to be honest I think this is the smallest I can make of a fully needle sculpted head.

Other parts of the pattern will need to be redone, the legs need to be longer and I had to do mitten like hands as her fingers just didn't look right. I also think I may do a second leg that has a pointed foot so she could be turned into a ballerina.
She did turn out well and I think I might have to design a pattern for a bigger doll, but first I have a doll I really want to make thats in my design notebook.
I'll leave you with a few more pictures of Tansy and see you next time.

A Day Out

Well I would really love to have a holiday away but at the moment it really isn't possible, but then I live in a beautiful part of the country so we try to take advantage of that and have days out locally. So last week we decided to go to Tintagel and Boscastle.

Boscastle, Cornwall, UK
Boscastle
Tintagel was a surprise this year as it had changed a lot, the what I call tatt (souvenir) shops that all sell the same thing, had gone and had been replaced with cafes and an ice cream parlour. Which is a good thing as usually all you could get in Tintagel to eat was either a pub meal or cornish Pasties. Our favourite shops were still there, which was good as I stocked up on some beads and gemstones for some projects in one.

Boscastle was still the same but with a new addition the Boscastle Fishing Co. which sell the lobsters and Crabs they catch as well as Crab or Lobster sandwiches. I wish I hadn't already bought a small pasty at the bakery as I would've liked a lobster sandwich. We finished up with a visit to the Boscastle pottery where I got an new mocha - ware mug to replace one that got broken.
We had a lovely day out and we are thinking of making a second visit to Boscastle later in the year to visit the Witchcraft Museum, another place I like to visit regularly as for a tiny place it has lots of interesting and fascinating exhibits.
